Today has been a day of healing, and I’ve gone from bursting into tears at random times (did you know there is a show on the National Geographic Network about “unusual animal friendships”? Yup, burst into tears because the animals were cute. “WAHHHH, the cat and the monkey wouldn’t be friends in the wild, that’s so beautiful” sigh.) to a whole lot of goofiness.
And yes, there really IS an International Bacon Day. And what better way to celebrate it than with my new mascot “Mr. Bacon”?? (actually, I’ve had Mr. Bacon for a while, but was waiting for the right time to break him out!)
I posted this on facebook earlier….See? So goofy!!!
Mr. Bacon posed with my big weekend breakfast of scrambled eggs, a tiny bit of bacon on top of the eggs (Dennis had a couple of slices), toast, and fruit.
I’m not sure if the love is reciprocated here.
Mr. Bacon went with me to shop for groceries. I was pretty impressed with my quick “whip him out of your purse and take a picture” in the bacon cooler area.
Dennis and I (and Mr. Bacon) then went down to the new community garden, and put in a couple of hours work. The garden is coming together really nicely, all the work is paying off. And everyone we’ve met and worked with are really nice. I know we’re going to love gardening there. Today’s task was “getting dirt into the raised beds”.
Mr. Bacon showed off our soon to be filled with dirt raised bed.
And found his way into a shovel…and posing with the unopened condom that I unearthed. Um…the city donated the dirt for us….what is going on at City Hall? Kidding…
After the garden work, we went for a little walk and took some very silly photos.
These ones are my personal favorites from the afternoon. We walked by a wedding party having a photo shoot. We asked them if they’d pose with Mr. Bacon and they were VERY happy to oblige. BIG congratulations to groom Sean and his bride, and thanks guys!!! It was fantastic to meet all of you!
Dennis and I had another picnic night tonight. It was a beautiful evening, and we know that it’ll soon be too cool and dark to early to have many more.
Tonight we went to Lighthouse Park. The traffic to get there was gridlock…so I passed the time, well…more silliness.
We had to do a little hiking once we got into the park in order to find a good picnic spot.
The trek was well worth it….this is NOT a shabby view while you have dinner!
For dinner, we had cold grilled chicken breasts with bbq sauce, grilled vegetable salad, steamed nugget potatoes with tzatsiki and fruit. We also had half a bottle of white wine leftover from last night, so put that in the cooler pack and had that too.
We watched a young lady get picked up by a party boat. It was quite the maneuver to get her into the dingy and back out….but they did it! Good job young ‘uns, nobody got wet that wasn’t already wet, and the boat didn’t get near the rocks! And once she was on, the boat took off loudly playing “Gangnum Style”. Woopa!
I was thinking what a beautiful setting it would be to do some yoga. I didn’t practice, but I decided Mr. Bacon should.
On the way back to the car, we hiked a bit higher and got a view of the Lighthouse….hence the name Lighthouse Park.
And finally, we stopped for soft serve ice cream on the way home.
Wow…not only is this post a wrap, the whole month of August is. Hard to believe this year is flying by so quickly. Back tomorrow….bring on September.
