Happy Saturday!

I’ve had a really busy Saturday.  It started with my weight watchers “step on”.  I lost a whopping….drumroll, (.4).  sigh.  Not even half a freakin’ pound.  I REALLY expected a bigger loss as I’ve been completely on track this week.  sigh.  Some days (today) I’m SO tired of thinking about the numbers on the scale, but hey, it’s what I have to do to get where I want to be, and ultimately stay there.  I had a 10 minute “WTF, now I’m grumpy party” and moved on.  (thank you Google Images)

After weigh in, I came home for breakfast which was a bagel thin, 1.5 tbsp light cream cheese, 1/4 avocado and a sliced orange.  I also had an almond milk latte.

I then ventured out for a hair cut and color, and once again, thanks to my hairdresser Patty, I’m “sassified”!  (technically this clip art from google images is backward, I’m blonde, Patty is brunette, but oh well)

Kathy, look!  Your red “statement shoes” have been replicated on a sandwich board!!!  WOO! (yours are hotter!!!)

Tomorrow is Chinese New Year.  As I parked our car close to the hairdresser, I saw this lady putting out a traditional setting on her deck.  I saw lit candles, oranges and incense. I was very careful to take the photo from far away and respect her privacy while I snapped the photo.   And I would SO love to know what was on the little shrine and what they all signified.

I’ve googled and found this on about.com.

“Beginning in the afternoon, ancestors are worshipped and given offerings for blessings and protection over the past year. Offerings include fruit, dried fruit, and candied peanuts. At the temple, families will burn sticks of incense and stacks of paper money.”

I feel really lucky to live in a city that has a very diverse population.  Yesterday, I shopped for food in Persian, Indian and Italian markets, today I saw this lady practicing traditions that have likely been around for generations and tomorrow – who knows.  Well, apparently “Alexander” does, but I’ll just wait and see what happens.  :)

Anyway, after the sassifying and trying not to overtly invade the privacy of the lady on the deck, I had a bunch of errands to do.  I was out for the whole afternoon.  Ug.  Vancouver is great for its diversity, but it’s traffic sucks!  There, I said it. :)

I had packed the sample of weight watchers new snack bar flavour that we were given at today’s meeting.

Despite that, I was starving when I got home so had a piece of lavash bread (flatbread from the Persian store) with hummus, chai tea (made with spices I bought from the Indian store yesterday, black teabags and almond milk) and a pack of weight watchers ginger snaps, that I’ve had in the cupboard since Christmas.

While I was out today, I found very small wine glasses (at a thrift store) so I could easily portion control wine.  I poured Dennis a regular sized glass, and mine is on the right.  It holds 1/2 cup nicely, so no measuring required.

Dinner tonight was a very easy burger in sandwich thin with oven “fries”.  (I had other plans, but didn’t feel like a serious cook fest tonight)

Now, I’m going to follow Neva’s lead and crash out on the couch for the rest of the night.

Shove over and share the seat Neva!  (and just in case you’re wondering, those are NOT my legs – my leg hair is fair) :)
