Apologies in advance for this “all over the map” post.
As many of you know, I’ve been bitten by a nasty cold/flu bug. (my second “stay home from work” illness in 2 months – I’ve had more sick days since December than I’ve had in the last 2 years combined – what is going on?????) Nasty germs!!!!
We had planned to take the ferry over to Victoria to spend the weekend with my parents – tomorrow is my Mom’s birthday.

After coughing the night away, we decided at 6:00am this morning that I wouldn’t do any of us any favors by going away, so have decided to postpone the visit until next weekend. I’m really sad about it because a) I love going to visit my parents b) it’s a gorgeous sunny day and the ferry crossing would have been lovely c) I want to make sure my Mom is spoiled on her birthday and d) a change of scenery would have been good for both Dennis and I. However, it’s only a week, and that means my Mom’s birthday will be “extendo birthday” this year and will stretch out over a week!
I’m not good at slothing around home for more than a day at a time, and I’ve been doing nothing but moving from couch to bed and back since Thursday afternoon. I decided that given it was so nice out, the fresh air would be good for me, and I wanted to get dressed and go and buy us some fruit and vegetables for the week ahead. OK Dennis, you were right, probably was a bit ambitious. I came home from my mini errand and had to nap. But, I had to give it a go and know I need to rest for a while longer before I’m back to myself. Good news though, I seem to be coughing a bit less this afternoon so with luck, I’ve turned the corner and will be back to myself in no time.
It has been a year since Vancouver hosted the Winter Olympics, and I was watching a recap of some of the events on TV this afternoon. Made me pop in the USB with our photos from our Olympic experience last year. I had a little NSV when I saw the photos. My face is MUCH thinner this February than it was last year at this time. Woo Hoo. Here are a couple of pictures from last year, (I haven’t put the REALLY puffy faced ones in, but trust me, they exist). Dennis and I pretending we are a bobsleigh team (and I had about 30 more pounds of push then) and us at one of the medal ceremonies.
I’m the first to admit, I did a 180, I was very strongly on the “anti-Olympic” team before the games got here – and truth be told, I’m STILL not convinced it was the wisest way to spend public money – but I admit, I DID get swept up in the Olympic energy that was here last year. It DID bring the city together, the enthusiasm was infectious and there was a feel-good environment in the area that I hadn’t felt for many, many years.
But that was then, this is now. My off and on appetite is REALLY off today, I didn’t eat anything until well into the afternoon.
I DID have an almond milk latte this morning though.
When I got back from the store, I had some carrots and mushrooms with ranch dip, some “fake” lobster (don’t groan, I LOVE pollack disguised as lobster or crab), a wee piece of bison pepperoni and some grapes. Strange combination, but somehow it all hit the spot.
Later in the afternoon, we had an almond milk hot chocolate with a grape juice sweetened cookie that I bought this morning from a little greek bakery right beside the produce market.
For dinner, I made us home-made individual pizzas. Dennis had his favorite bbq chicken with mozzarella, and I had roasted vegetable (eggplant, onion, peppers, zucchini), spinach and fresh basil with low-fat goat cheese.
I also made us a salad on mixed greens with warm butternut squash, strawberries, some sunflower seeds and fat-free balsamic.
Now, time to shut down the computer and get some rest. Oh wait, that’s pretty much all I HAVE been doing. sigh. I’m SURE tomorrow will be more energetic. Until then, have a good rest of the weekend.

Sorry you’re sick…hope you feel better quickly! Great NSV – you are right, you look a lot thinner now. Nice to see visual evidence of your hard work, right?

Looks like you may have the real-deal flu, not just a cold. I asked someone once how they could tell the difference, and they said, “You’ll know.” When I had to take a nap after walking to the mailbox and back, I understood.
Hoping you’ve turned the corner!

Hope you continue to get on the mend and enjoy your Mom’s birthday!
That greek cookie looks scrumptious. It looks almondy or anise flavored to me, for whatever reason.

We had those nasty germs going around at work a couple of months ago. Rest, rest, rest. Gone are the 1 or 2 day colds. It’s tough slothing around though, isn’t it? Feel better wishes coming your way on the net.
I felt the same way about the Olympics as you did, but when it was a go, well we might as well embrace it. The camaradarie was infectious, wasn’t it?

I hear you! The illnesses are zooming around this year! I’ve had my second cold in 6 months and I don’t normally get sick! This last round was brutal, too!
Those individual pizzas look AMAZING!!!
